Masham

Another of the UK’s commercial crossbred ewes used in the 3-tier scheme is the Masham. The Masham is a crossbred ewe sired by either a Teeswater or Wensleydale ram, out of hill breed ewes, such as the Swaledale, Rough Fells, and Beulah Speckled Face, with the Scottish Masham from a Scottish Blackface ewe.

The Masham ewe is medium sized and hornless, she is a hardy, well carcassed ewe that is also prolific with great milking and mothering abilities. She has a reputation for the ability to perform well in a wide variety of circumstances. The Masham is then crossed to terminal sires such as the Suffolk and Texel to produce quality lamb.
